FTO
Corners first
Face Turning Octahedron: an official WCA event from 2 January 2027 (instead of Clock). To start, corners first, then edges and triangles: three algorithms are enough.
How to read the moves
The FTO has 8 faces: U, F, R, L in the upper half and D, B, BR, BL in the lower. A move is 1/3 of a turn of a face clockwise, an apostrophe the other way.
A number before a letter is an inner layer: 2F is the middle layer next to the F face (often “S” in tutorials).
- UTop face
- FFront face
- RRight face
- LLeft face
- BRBack right face
- 2FMiddle layer next to F
Step-by-step method
1. Three corners of one face
intuitiveThree corners of one face in place, their sides matching each other.
Startscrambled Goalthree corners In colour: solved. Grey: not yet.
- An intuitive step. A corner is a vertex with four colours. Pick a face colour and solve the three corners that have it.
- You can solve the whole white face right away with edges and triangles, but corners are enough to start.
2. The other three corners

2 algorithms4. Triangles
