7x7

Reduction

Like the 5x5: centres, edges, then the 3x3. The only parity is Edge parity on the last edges.

How to read the moves

You hold the cube facing you. The letter is the face: R right, L left, U up, D down, F front, B back.

A letter alone is a quarter turn clockwise, looking straight at that face. An apostrophe (R′) is a turn the other way, and 2 (R2) is a half turn.

Rw (a wide move) turns the two outer layers at once, 3Rw three. A number alone before a letter (2R, 3R) turns just that one inner layer, counted from that face.

A 7x7 scramble also uses 3Rw, 3Uw…, and Edge parity uses 2R and 3R moves.

  • RRight face up
  • RwTwo right layers up
  • 3RwThree right layers up
  • 2ROnly the second layer from the right, up
  • 3ROnly the third layer from the right, up
  • 3UwThree top layers to the left

Step-by-step method

  1. 1. Centres

    intuitive

On each face the 5x5 centre is one colour.

    Goalcentres

In colour: solved. Grey: not yet.

    • As on the 5x5: first two opposite ones, then the remaining four. It helps to start with the middle 1x5 strip.
  2. 2. Edges

  3. 3. Like a 3x3 and Edge parity
